Many children are shocked by dengue fever, critical condition
Recently, the City Children's Hospital received newborn baby T.N.T.K (4.5 months old) in critical condition due to dengue shock and severe blood clotting disorder.
Exploiting the medical history, the child had a high and non-continuous fever for 3 days, showed signs of sleepinessiness, accompanied by coughing and mild runny nose. The family took the child to a private medical facility for examination and was diagnosed with hand, foot and mouth disease.
However, by the 4th day of the disease, even though the fever had decreased, the child showed unusual signs such as sleeping a lot, cold hands and feet. The family immediately took the child to a local hospital in a state of lethargy, crying, cold hands and feet, low blood pressure, and bleeding spots on the legs, hands, abdomen and skin.

The child was diagnosed with severe dengue shock syndrome and transferred to the City Children's Hospital in critical condition. After 72 hours of treatment, the child's bloodline and liver damage improved, no further bleeding, was alert, breastfeeding well, and urinating well.
Doctor Nguyen Minh Tien - Deputy Director of the City Children's Hospital said that this case is a warning bell about dengue fever in infants. Children often do not show typical symptoms such as continuous high fever but can have a mild fever, accompanied by symptoms such as cough, sneezing, diarrhea, vomiting... easily confused with respiratory, digestive or hand, foot and mouth disease.

At Children's Hospital 2, the number of dengue fever cases in May 2025 increased by 2.5 times compared to the same period last year. Worryingly, many people are not yet fully aware of the dangers of the disease, leading to late detection and treatment, causing the disease to quickly worsen.
Last month, the Intensive Care Unit of Children's Hospital 2 received 4 cases of serious illness. Typically, young L.N. T. T (6 years old, Binh Duong) has a high fever at home, but his family thinks simply, only buying medicine to reduce fever to take. On the third day, the child began to vomit and bleed, and was taken to the hospital in a state of severe shock.
More than 8,500 cases of dengue fever since the beginning of the year
According to statistics from the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control (HCDC), in week 23 (February 2 - 8), Ho Chi Minh City recorded 320 cases of dengue fever, an increase of 13.1% compared to the average of the previous 4 weeks.
The total number of dengue fever cases accumulated from the beginning of 2025 to week 23 is 8,595 cases. Districts with cases over 100,000 people include Can Gio district, Cu Chi district and Nha Be district.

Doctor Do Chau Viet - Head of the Department of Intensive Care and Infectious Diseases of Children's Hospital 2 recommends that parents should pay attention to dengue fever that can occur all year round, but increases significantly during the rainy season. Currently, the southern provinces are entering the rainy season.
If the child has a high fever for more than 2 days, parents should pay attention to the risk of dengue fever and take the child to the doctor early.
During home monitoring, special attention should be paid to signs of worsening such as fatigue, continuous vomiting, abdominal pain, unusual bleeding, etc. When the child shows severe signs, it is necessary to take the child to the nearest medical facility immediately, for safe treatment and transfer.
The Ho Chi Minh City health sector calls on each citizen to proactively take measures to prevent dengue fever to prevent outbreaks.
