On the afternoon of January 25, the Ministry of Health issued an urgent document requesting localities to review, inspect and propagate to prevent people from using Aptamil Infant Formula 800g formula milk products due to the risk of toxic contamination affecting the health of young children.
According to information from the Food Safety Department (Ministry of Health), on January 23, 2026, Daone Company - a multinational food company based in France - voluntarily recalled a batch of Aptamil First Infant Formula milk produced and circulated in the UK market after detecting a product contaminated with cereulide toxin.
Cereulide is a toxin produced by Bacillus cereus bacteria, which can cause food poisoning, especially dangerous for infants and young children. The recalled product batch is Aptamil First Infant Formula packaged at 800g, with expiry date before October 31, 2026.
By January 24, 2026, the UK Food Standards Agency (FSA) publicly warned about this incident on its official website, advising consumers to stop using products from the above batch.
Faced with the risk of affecting public health, especially children, the Food Safety Department requests the Departments of Health of provinces and cities; Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety; Sub-Departments of Food Safety and Hygiene of localities to urgently implement the following measures:
Review the registration of declarations or self-declarations for Aptamil Infant Formula formula milk products manufactured by Daone Company.
Work with product announcement and distribution businesses (if any), request notification to distributors and consumers to stop using products, and organize recalls according to manufacturer recommendations.
Clearly report the quantity of products that have been imported, sold to the market and are still in stock, and propose handling measures for related product shipments.
Promote propaganda and warn consumers not to use all shipments of Aptamil Infant Formula milk that are subject to recall.
Report the handling results to the Food Safety Department before January 31, 2026.
The Food Safety Department recommends that consumers, especially families with young children, proactively check the information of the product being used, immediately stop using Aptamil Infant Formula 800g milk that is subject to warning and contact the distributor for specific guidance.
The Ministry of Health said it will continue to coordinate with relevant functional agencies to closely monitor the circulation of products, ensure food safety and consumer rights.
In addition, the Food Safety Department (Ministry of Health) has issued a document requesting the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy (Ministry of Industry and Trade) to coordinate in strengthening the management of food business activities on e-commerce platforms.
Faced with the risk that the above products may be advertised for sale through the online environment and e-commerce, the Food Safety Department requests the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy - Ministry of Industry and Trade to widely announce to e-commerce platforms, sales websites and business booths on the platform to coordinate with booth owners and distributors:
Immediately stop the business of Aptamil milk shipments that are subject to warning if they are found to be circulating in Vietnam;
Remove all information and advertising images related to poor quality products;
Handling according to the provisions of law in case violations are detected.
The Food Safety Department emphasized that strict control of food business activities in the e-commerce environment is an urgent requirement to protect consumer health, especially in the context that products for young children are widely traded online.
The Ministry of Health said it will continue to coordinate with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and relevant functional agencies to monitor, supervise and strictly handle violations, ensuring food safety and the legitimate rights of consumers.
Aptamil milk in the UK urgently recalled due to toxicity risk
Some batches of Aptamil formula milk for infants and young children are being urgently recalled in the United Kingdom and some European countries due to concerns about cereulide toxin contamination. According to Danone, the cause stems from contaminated ARA oil. The affected Aptamil First Infant Milk batch is valid until October 31, 2026.
