Nestle is recalling many batches of formula milk for children in 25 countries due to the risk of Cereulide toxin contamination - a substance that can cause vomiting and abdominal pain. The recall involves some SMA milk powder and formula milk lines, mainly in European markets, originating from supplier materials.
Nestle said it has not recorded any cases and is proceeding with recalls with maximum caution, and is committed to refunding customers. The Food Safety Department warns of Beba and Alfamino infant milk powder in Germany
Before the above information, on January 7, the Food Safety Department (Ministry of Health) issued a warning document related to a number of batches of infant formula bearing the Beba and Alfamino brands manufactured and distributed by Nestle Group in Germany.
In order to ensure health safety for Vietnamese consumers, the Food Safety Department has sent a document to Nestle Vietnam Co., Ltd. (address: 5th Floor, Empress Tower, No. 138 - 142 Hai Ba Trung, Saigon Ward, Ho Chi Minh City), requesting urgent review of registration of declarations or self-declarations for infant formula products bearing the Beba and Alfamino brands in Vietnam.
Report specifically on the import situation (if any), including: imported quantity, quantity distributed to the market, remaining inventory; and propose appropriate handling measures for related product shipments;
Report the results of implementing the above contents to the Food Safety Department before January 10, 2025.
The Food Safety Department said that the document was also sent to relevant ministries and sectors, the National Steering Committee 389, Departments of Health of provinces and cities, Sub-Departments of Food Safety and Hygiene, and associations and specialized units to coordinate supervision, inspection and timely handling if violations are detected circulating on the market.
Functional agencies recommend that consumers, especially parents, follow official information from the Ministry of Health, do not use products that are subject to warning or recall, and promptly notify functional agencies if products are suspected of not being safe.
The Food Safety Department affirmed that it will continue to closely monitor the developments of the incident, and at the same time coordinate with relevant agencies to protect the rights and health of consumers.
The Food Safety Department (Ministry of Health) also sent a document to the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy - Ministry of Industry and Trade on strengthening the management of food business activities on e-commerce platforms, related to a number of batches of infant milk powder bearing the Beba and Alfamino brands.
Faced with the risk that the above products may be advertised for sale or circulated through e-commerce channels in Vietnam, in order to ensure health safety for consumers, the Food Safety Department requests the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy to direct and notify e-commerce platforms, online sales websites, and booths operating on digital platforms to closely coordinate with Nestle Vietnam Co., Ltd., booth owners and distributors to stop trading the above-mentioned beba and Alfamino infant formula batches if they are found to be circulating in Vietnam;
Remove all advertising and introduction information related to products that do not meet quality standards or are subject to warning and recall;
Coordinate handling according to the provisions of law in case violations are detected.
