The patient, N.T.L (born in 1964, residing in Long Minh village, Viet Xuyen commune, Ha Tinh province), was admitted to the hospital in pain, burning in both eyes.
According to the patient, before, after listening to word of mouth, the treatment for silkworms was by taking roasted Nai seeds, crushing them, soaking them in alcohol and then using this solution to wash them directly on the head. However, during the washing process, the alcohol seeped into the patient's eyes, causing severe burns.
After about 12 hours of self-treatment by washing water, the condition did not improve, the eyes were still swollen, painful and vision was reduced, the patient returned to Thach Ha Medical Center for examination.
Through examination, the doctor noted that both eyes of the patient had pimples, convergence of the peritoneum, cornea was completely swollen, central cornea ulcers, fluorescein dyed positive; vision was seriously impaired when admitted to the hospital - the right eye only counted fingers at a distance of 1m, the left eye 2m.
The patient was diagnosed with corneal burns, which could have a long-term impact on vision if not treated promptly.
After that, the doctor gave them active antibiotic and anti-inflammatory treatment. After 4 days of treatment, the patient's condition subsided, the faculation prevented convergence, the cornea was less swollen, the cornea ulcer gradually showed signs, vision recovered significantly, the eye had to reach 5/10 and the left eye 6/10.
According to medical experts, nasal seeds contain many toxic active ingredients, so soaking in alcohol increases the risk of causing serious damage if directly exposed to the eyes, skin or mucous membranes.
Using nasal seeds soaked in wine to treat premature taste is unscientific and still has serious complications. In fact, there have been many cases of vision loss or long-term sequelae due to belief in similar folk tips.
