On the morning of May 28, three one-stop models providing social work services from the Ho Chi Minh City budget for women, children and people affected by violence and abuse at 3 hospitals including Children's Hospital 1, City Children's Hospital, and Ho Chi Minh City Orthopedic Trauma were officially launched at the City Children's Hospital.
Mr. Nguyen Van Dung - Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee said that Ho Chi Minh City is the most populous city in the country with a relatively complicated situation of gender-based violence, the city has issued and implemented many policies and intervention programs.
The new one-stop model at 3 hospitals aims to provide timely and quality services for women, children and vulnerable groups affected by violence, to ensure that they are not left behind in the overall development of the city.
Hundreds of women and children are victims of violence and sexual abuse
In 2023, Ho Chi Minh City built and operated a first one-stop model - the Bo Cong Anh model located at Hung Vuong Hospital. This model provides comprehensive support services for women and children affected by violence and abuse according to current state policies. Instead of having to go through many agencies, people affected by violence and abuse only need to approach a single location to receive timely, appropriate support and information security.
In just 2 years of operation, the model has supported, intervene and provided timely services to 224 cases of women, minors and children who are victims of violence and sexual abuse. Of which, 194/224 cases of children under 16 years old are pregnant and giving birth, accounting for 86.61% of children born.
At the same time as operating the model, Hung Vuong Hospital also recorded 1,009 more cases of examination and treatment (including 798 cases of children giving birth and 211 children planning for family) who did not use the services provided by the model for many different reasons.
Through practical operation, the Bo Cong Anh one-stop model has partly outlined the situation of gender-based violence in Ho Chi Minh City, in which the victims of violence are mainly women, girls and the perpetrators of violence are mainly men. In particular, many victims of violence are not only victims of violence from an individual, but are also subjected to multiple assaults by many other family members.
At the same time, it affirmed the effectiveness of the multi-sectoral approach not only focusing on supporting victims, but also promoting intervention measures for men.
New one-stop model in 3 hospitals
With the new one-stop model in 3 hospitals, patients coming for examination and treatment at Children's Hospital 1, the City Children's Hospital and the Ho Chi Minh City Orthopedic Trauma Hospital (in the model) will be examined and screened. If there are signs of violence or abuse, they will be transferred to the hospital's One-Stop Office.
The staff here contact the City Center for Social Work - Education and Vocational Education (the output of the model) to coordinate with the specialized department of the authorities to coordinate the service to provide a UNIT to help patients and families. At the same time, organize meetings with related parties to consult shifts, psychological, legal advice, health care for people with violence, abuse, stable family support and monitoring of shift management in the community.
In case the victim of violence or abuse needs to temporarily take emergency treatment, he/she will be transferred to the City Youth Vocational Education - Social Work Center (first model).
People who are victims of violence, abuse, or unexpected pregnancy will be provided with care, nurturing, interventions, treatment, and other essential services according to current state policies. At the same time, coordinate with local authorities to help people affected by violence and abuse to return home and continue to help stabilize their lives and integrate into the community.
People who are victims of violence and abuse need help to contact via the hotline of model 1900 54 55 59 (receiving information 24/7) or go directly to the One-Stop Office at 4 Hospitals: Hung Vuong (District 5); Children 1 (District 10), Children of the City (Binh Chanh District) and Orthopedic Trauma of Ho Chi Minh City (District 5).
