On the night of July 25, Bai Chay Hospital coordinated with the National Organ Transplant Coordination Center and leading hospitals to implement the process of taking and coordinating multiple organs from a brain-dead donor.
The donor was a 19-year-old young man who unfortunately had a traffic accident and was taken to Bai Chay Hospital for emergency treatment in a state of severe multiple injuries and deep coma.
Doctors and nurses have mobilized maximum resources for resuscitation and active treatment. However, due to severe brain damage, the patient no longer has the ability to recover.
After the monitoring process, performing tests, functional exploration and consultation according to regulations, the Professional Council determined that the brain death patient was through 3 independent evaluations, ensuring the correct professional procedures.
In a moment of sadness, the patient's family decided to donate the organs of their loved one after brain death to save other patients.
Immediately after receiving the consent of the family, Bai Chay Hospital coordinated with the National Organ Transplant Coordination Center and related units to implement the process of assessing, taking and coordinating organs.
According to the coordination plan, specialized teams successfully removed the heart, liver and 2 kidneys from the donor.
In which, the heart was transferred to Central Military Hospital 108. Liver transplant for one patient at Central Military Hospital 108 and one patient at the National Children's Hospital.
The two kidneys were successively transferred to Hue Central Hospital and Children's Hospital 2 for transplantation to patients on the national organ transplant waiting list.
From the gestures of organ donors and their families, 4 donated organs have brought life opportunities to 5 patients, contributing to spreading the message of sharing and continuing life.
Bai Chay Hospital is the third hospital in Quang Ninh to successfully implement the campaign to donate and take multiple organs from brain-dead donors.
