On December 26, information from Lang Son General Hospital said that doctors and nurses had just received and successfully treated a particularly dangerous obstetric case, amputating at the old cesarean section after the patient had an illegal abortion at home.
Accordingly, patient N.T.L (40 years old) was admitted to the hospital in a state of rapid pulse, low blood pressure, pale mucous membranes, and dizziness due to acute blood loss.
Pre-existing history shows that the patient had undergone 3 cesarean sections, 1 cesarean section and 2 medical abortions.
After a delay in menstruation, the patient underwent an ultrasound at a private medical facility and was informed that she was 6 weeks pregnant.
However, instead of going to a specialized facility for advice and monitoring, the patient arbitrarily used abortion pills at home.
Just a few hours after taking the drug, the patient experienced massive vaginal bleeding, bright red blood, quickly falling into the risk of shock and blood loss and had to be hospitalized for emergency care.
Through clinical examination and paraclinical tests, doctors determined that this was a case of atrophy at an old placenta surgical site, a particularly dangerous form of the extra-utral fetus.
In this condition, the placenta does not form a nest in the uterine cavity but sticks to the location of the old cesarean section.
For women who have had multiple cesarean sections, the scar area is often very thin; when the fetus attaches to it, the vegetable thorns can eat deep into the uterine muscles, even spreading to the bladder, causing the risk of uterine rupture and massive bleeding.
According to Lang Son General Hospital, the use of abortion pills in this case caused a strong contraction of the uterus, causing the placenta to peel at the surgical scar location, where the uterine muscles did not have the ability to contract well to stop bleeding, thereby leading to serious bleeding, threatening the patient's life.
Faced with the critical condition, doctors in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department urgently performed an emergency uterine tubal extraction under ultrasound instructions, removed most of the placenta and controlled the bleeding.
After the intervention, the patient was closely monitored; his health is now stable.
According to doctors, in reality, many cases of amputation at the surgical site if not detected early and treated properly can lead to severe blood loss, forced uterine removal, seriously affecting reproductive health and the life of women.
From this case, doctors recommend that women with a history of cesarean section or uterine intervention when detecting pregnancy should immediately go to a specialized medical facility to accurately determine the location of the placenta from an early stage.
Abortion by drugs is only performed when prescribed and under close supervision of a doctor, after excreting the fetus from the uterus and the sternum at the surgical site.
When unusual signs such as amnex in the lower abdomen or vaginal bleeding after menopause appear, the patient needs to go to a medical facility with sufficient professional qualifications for timely examination and treatment to avoid unfortunate complications.
