K Hospital successfully deployed the technique of biopsy of retroperitoneal ganglions using ICG (Indocyanine Green) combined with vaginal endoscopic surgery (vNOTES) for patients with early-stage endometrial cancer. Notably, the entire process is performed through the vagina, without any surgical incisions on the abdominal wall, opening up a major step forward in minimally invasive surgery.
The 69-year-old female patient, with a history of hypertension, was hospitalized due to abnormal vaginal bleeding after menopause. After examination and necessary tests, the patient was diagnosed with endometrial cancer in the IA stage.
The multidisciplinary consultation agreed to choose the vNOTES option combining ICG portal lymph node biopsy, and at the same time cutting off the entire uterus and two appendages.
The surgery was directly performed by Dr. Le Tri Chinh - Head of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics, K Hospital, along with the anesthesia and resuscitation team in charge of Dr. Tran Duc Tho. The surgery took place smoothly, accurately and safely.
According to Dr. Le Tri Chinh, KvNOTES is a new generation endoscopic surgery technique, using the vagina to access the abdominal cavity. This method brings many outstanding benefits such as no scarring, less pain, rapid recovery and shortened hospital stay.
Meanwhile, ICG oral lymph node biopsy is currently considered a "golden standard" in assessing lymph node metastasis in gynecological cancer. This technique helps accurately identify the first lymph nodes at risk of metastasis, thereby avoiding unnecessary lymph node drainage, significantly reducing the risk of lymphedema and neurological complications.
Combining these two advanced techniques helps ensure the effectiveness of radical treatment while still maximizing the anatomical structure and quality of life of patients.
From the accumulated experience through hundreds of vNOTES cases, we constantly learn, improve and create to bring the most advanced techniques in the world into the practice of treatment. Combining vNOTES with ICG-assisted ganglion biopsy in early-stage endometrial cancer is an important step forward, clearly demonstrating the professional capacity and pioneering spirit of the team of K Hospital doctors for the maximum benefit of patients" - Dr. Le Tri Chinh said.
