On behalf of the Politburo, General Secretary To Lam signed and promulgated Resolution 80-NQ/TW of the Politburo on the development of Vietnamese culture.
In which the resolution emphasized the consensus to choose November 24th every year as "Vietnamese Cultural Day", as a holiday, and workers are entitled to full salary.
Through this, people's ability to enjoy culture is improved, the team of artists and writers is encouraged to be creative, and the whole society promotes and practices a cultural and civilized lifestyle.
According to Lao Dong Newspaper's investigation, the Department of Employment has sent an official letter to the Legal Department (Ministry of Home Affairs) proposing to include this content in the work of amending and supplementing the 2019 Labor Code. This is to institutionalize the policy of the Politburo.
Previously, in an exchange with Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Ngo Duy Hieu - Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL) - said that immediately after receiving Resolution No. 80-NQ/TW through the press, the VGCL informed, shared and received feedback from union members and workers.
With more than 85,000 people consulted, more than 95% expressed great joy and highly agreed with the content of the Resolution unanimously choosing November 24th every year as "Vietnamese Cultural Day", this day workers are entitled to leave and receive full salary. The rest, workers also expressed their agreement with this new holiday.
Mr. Ngo Duy Hieu said that there are no specific plans yet, but the VGCL will certainly consider this an opportunity to organize activities to improve the spiritual and cultural life for union members and workers - subjects who are lacking many conditions to enjoy spiritual and cultural values, including time reasons.
This is a very good opportunity to organize cultural and sports playgrounds, bring workers to historical and cultural relics in the area or spend time with family members to share and honor Vietnamese family cultural values.
According to the 2019 Labor Code, workers are entitled to a total of 11 days off for holidays, official Tet, enjoying full salary, including New Year's Day, Lunar New Year, Hung Kings Commemoration, Victory Day 30/4, International Labor Day 1.5 and National Day 2.9. After institutionalizing the policy of the Politburo, in 2026, there will be 1 more day off, raising the number of days off to 12 days.
