Why can menopause lead to depression?
Menopause is the time that marks the end of a woman's menstrual cycle, usually occurring between her mid-40s and early 50s.
Menopause is often accompanied by a series of hormonal changes due to changes in estrogen and progesterone levels, during which time women's emotional health is also greatly affected.
To avoid the effects of menopause on life, women of this age must pay attention to taking care of their emotional health because any major changes in life during this period can lead to depression.
Dr Tanveer Aujla, senior consultant obstetrician and gynecologist at Motherhood Hospital (India), said that during menopause, women are prone to depression. In addition, at this time, women may suffer from insomnia due to hot flashes and have difficulty in their sex life due to vaginal dryness.
Studies show that negative attitudes towards menopause can exacerbate mood swings and hot flashes, so women of this age should try to maintain a positive attitude towards life.
