On the morning of July 1, information from the leader of the People's Committee of Thuan Long commune (old Quynh Luu district), Nghe An province said that a forest fire had just occurred in the area.
The fire broke out at around 8:00 p.m. on June 30, people discovered the fire flaring up fiercely in the Ban Co mountain area, then spread quickly over a large area, so they reported it to the local authorities.
The commune government immediately mobilized militia, police, and soldiers to coordinate with people to approach the scene and deploy fire fighting measures.

However, firefighting encountered many difficulties due to high mountains, steep roads, and strong winds from the sea, causing the fire to continuously flare up. By 10pm, the fire had not been completely controlled, with the risk of spreading to neighboring forests and residential areas.
At around 11pm the same day, the fire was basically under control, but the forces involved still sent people to be on duty to prevent the fire from breaking out again.
Currently, the authorities continue to apply measures to prevent the fire from breaking out again, investigate and verify the cause of the fire to handle it according to the provisions of law.
According to local people, Ban Co mountain, in Duc Long village, Thuan Long commune, Nghe An province (Quynh Thuan commune, old Quynh Luu district) has many pine trees, and in the summer, pine leaves fall down, creating a layer of dry skin, posing a very high risk of forest fire.
Accordingly, on June 5, 2023, a forest fire also occurred here, causing damage to about 3.5 hectares.
