Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Ha Thanh, Director of the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, said: In the 2 months of July - August 2025, the National Blood Center and the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion are expected to need a total of 90,000 units of blood to supply 180 hospitals in the Northern region.
The Institute has continuously mobilized and invited blood donors in recent times; at the same time, working with units to supplement blood donation schedules, helping people have more opportunities to donate blood.
However, to ensure timely and effective blood needs for emergency care and treatment, the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion still needs an additional 30,000 units of blood, of which group O blood alone needs about 15,000 units.
The Director of the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion shared: Summer is the season when there are always fluctuations in the source of blood donors for many reasons: people spend time traveling with family, students return to their hometowns... Blood donors tend to decrease in the summer, but treatment cannot be stopped, and many cases even need more blood, such as children with congenital hemorrhage need blood transfusion to stabilize their health and prepare for the new school year.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Ha Thanh especially called for: Blood is a special product for treatment of patients, cannot be preserved for a long time, there are no replacement products, so it must be donated regularly and continuously. I urgently hope to call on all healthy blood donors to participate in blood donation many times, participate in blood donation this summer because "each drop of blood given - a lifetime remains".
Immediately after the above call, on the morning of July 10, a number of individuals and units participated in blood donation. To contribute to ensuring the need for emergency care and blood treatment during the summer, Hanoi Heart Hospital has organized blood donation for doctors, nurses and staff in the agency with the goal of receiving at least 100 units of blood.
Although it is the summer vacation - a time chosen by many people to rest, travel or work part-time... in response to the call of the National Institute of Hematology - Blood Transfusion, there are still many people registering to donate blood and platelets.
Speaking with the slogan "A drop of blood given - A life left behind", Le Thi Thuy Duong (National Academy of Public Administration) expressed: "I want my summer vacation to start with something meaningful. Everyone needs a summer vacation, but some people need to be saved more. It took me only half a morning to be able to help a sick person, so I hope young people like you should actively and proactively donate blood."

Sharing the same feelings with Thuy Duong, Lai Tuan Anh (a final year student at Hanoi University of Science and Technology) who had just completed his graduation protection the day before also quickly arranged time to donate blood.

I want to save a beautiful memory for the last summer of my college years. Donating blood is a humane act, a small act that can bring life to someone. Using this action to exchange greetings for the years of youth makes me feel very happy.
