Of these, 4 dishes prepared by the canteen for dinner on October 8 were found to be positive for Salmonella bacteria: pickled cucumber, grilled lolot leaves, fried chicken, and water spinach soup.
In addition, four samples taken from four patients who had not taken antibiotics were also found positive for Salmonella paratyphi B.
As reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, at around 4:30 p.m. on October 9, a number of students in the dormitory of Lao Cai College, campus 1 (Bac Cuong ward, Lao Cai city) were hospitalized with symptoms of digestive disorders, suspected of food poisoning after eating at the cafeteria.
Immediately after receiving the information, Lao Cai Department of Health directed relevant units to investigate, verify, collect water, food and patient samples for necessary tests.
