New houses are gradually taking shape in the landslide areas of Sa Pa, Bac Ha and Bao Yen (Lao Cai) and people's lives are also beginning to stabilize again.

Rebuilding homes after natural disasters

According to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper, Hoa Su Pan 1 village, Muong Hoa commune, Sa Pa town - the first place in Lao Cai province where landslides occurred after storm No. 3, causing many casualties - the scene is still in disarray.

With the support of local authorities and volunteer organizations, the people here have started to clean up and rebuild to stabilize their lives soon. Daily activities have started again, children go to school, and adults also go to work to earn money to support their lives.

Chau A Sinh (24 years old, H’Mong ethnic group) - the man who lost both his wife and 10-month-old child shared: “The natural disaster was very painful but there was nothing more I could do. All my family members encouraged me to continue my life...”. It is known that this man has now returned to his previous job as a marketer for a soft drink company in Sa Pa.

Not far away, at the construction site, rebuilding houses after a natural disaster, the working atmosphere is extremely urgent.

Leading the reporter to the landslide area, Mr. Chau A Chang (34 years old, H'Mong ethnic group) said: "That day (September 8) it rained heavily, because I have 2 small children and was worried about the landslide, my wife and I moved to another house to take shelter. Only my mother stayed to feed the chickens. But unexpectedly, the flash flood suddenly came and swept away people and the entire house."

According to Mr. Chang, more than a month has passed, the funeral has been completed, so now he has started to rebuild the house, then will consider a plan to restore the eroded fields to stabilize his life.

“I bought a piece of land for 300 million VND, a distance from my old house, to build a new place to live. Fortunately, the government supported me with more than 200 million VND, so the burden was somewhat relieved. We built a brick house according to the design and requirements of the local government. I hope the new house will be completed soon so that I can have a place to live after the storm and flood,” Chau A Chang said.

On October 20, speaking to reporters of Lao Dong Newspaper, Sa Pa City Party Secretary Phan Dang Toan said: “Houses of households in the landslide area in Muong Hoa commune are under construction. We are asking the commune to report progress every day, trying to complete it by October 30. In addition, people are also supported with policies to restore production.”

New houses gradually appear

In Nam Tong village (Nam Luc commune, Bac Ha), the reporter's records show that, up to this point, in the housing reconstruction area for 15 households in the village, 11/15 house foundations have been dug, and 9/15 houses have been poured and lined. Currently, construction units are building the first meters of walls.

According to the leader of the People's Council of Bac Ha district, the locality implements programs and policies issued by Lao Cai province to help people stabilize their lives and restore production activities. Whatever is possible, we will support the people as much as possible.

As for Lang Nu village (Phuc Khanh commune, Bao Yen), the place that suffered the heaviest loss of life in Lao Cai province, the lives of the people here have returned to normal. In small temporary houses, the lucky survivors are starting a new life.

At the construction site of the resettlement area in Lang Nu village, after many days of hard work in the sun and rain, the ground, concrete pillars and foundations of sturdy houses have gradually appeared before our eyes.

“The completion of the temporary shelter has helped homeless people have a place to live. The resettlement area is currently implementing the construction of the first house. The best and most necessary issues will be given priority to Lang Nu village. The district and the province are surveying to support people with plant and animal varieties to restore production activities,” informed the leader of Phuc Khanh Commune People's Committee.
