Tests open up new ways to detect and treat diseases

Testing plays an increasingly important role in detecting diseases, stratifying risks and individualizing treatment.

At the 1st Scientific Conference of the Institute of Medical Laboratory - Bach Mai Hospital held on September 18, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Xuan Co - Director of Bach Mai Hospital said that in modern medicine, testing is no longer just a technical step of clinical support but has become an important link in most patient care decisions, from risk detection, diagnosis, treatment selection to response monitoring and prognosis.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Xuan Co emphasized that medical tests must ensure the right patients, the right indications, the right samples and at the right time; the entire process needs to be strictly controlled, with results consistent with the level of urgency and interconnected with electronic medical records and clinical data.

In precision medicine, testing plays a key role. Standardized, managed and secure test data can serve treatment, and are also a resource for research, building disease populations, sample banks and biomedical databases, thereby developing prediction models and evaluating treatment effectiveness.

Bach Mai Hospital will build a quality management system in the direction of approaching international standards, standardizing the entire process from indication to result delivery and interpretation, and quantifying indicators of errors, result delivery time and clinical satisfaction level.

According to Standing Deputy Minister of Health Vu Manh Ha, medical testing plays an important role in diagnosis, treatment, monitoring, prognosis, disease surveillance and emergency response. Advances in automation, molecular biology, gene sequencing, big data and artificial intelligence are promoting disease detection, risk stratification and treatment personalization. However, test results must still be accurate, timely, safe and effectively serve clinical decisions.

The Deputy Minister requested Bach Mai Hospital and the Institute of Medical Testing to prioritize quality and patient safety; strengthen quality control, risk management, data security and connection with electronic medical records. Test data needs to be exploited for treatment, management, research and disease surveillance.

The conference has 7 specialized scientific sessions. At the thematic session on Gene Therapy - Stem Cells, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dang Dung, Head of the Department of Immunology (Military Medical Academy), Senior Advisor of the Specialized Medical System for Regenerative Medicine and Cell Therapy Mescells|MSC said that stem cells are not only a medical technique but also belong to the group of key and national strategic technologies.

For this field to develop safely, efficiently and sustainably, it is necessary to master the GMP standard production process and overcome strict requirements on infrastructure, technology, microenvironmental research, phase III clinical trials, sterile room, equipment, human resources and preservation, transportation of living cells.

The above requirements show that along with accessing new technologies, the testing and modern medicine industry must pay special attention to quality control, patient safety and the ability to transfer scientific achievements into practice.

Ministry of Health proposes interlinking 441 tests and scans when transferring hospitals

The Ministry of Health is seeking opinions on a draft circular regulating the list and conditions for reusing test results and paraclinical services between health insurance medical examination and treatment facilities, in order to reduce the indication of repeated tests and scans, saving time and costs for patients.

The expected list includes 441 techniques belonging to biochemistry, hematology - blood transfusion, microbiology - parasites and electrophotometry. Including 367 electrophotometry techniques, 26 microbiology - parasites techniques, 27 hematology - blood transfusion techniques and 21 biochemistry techniques. With electrophotometry, the interconnected results include image data, not just the conclusion.

The time to use the results is calculated from the time of sampling for testing and from the time of performing the technique for electrophoresis. The proposed time limit depends on the technical group, from 24 hours to 60 days; for some microbial - parasitic tests, only positive results are applied.
