LD26079: Without money for treatment, poor worker families face the risk of losing their children

NGUYỄN TRƯỜNG |

Ninh Binh - Mr. and Mrs. Phan Sy Ba, residing in Yen Khanh commune, are facing the risk of losing their first son when they do not have money to treat their son's illness.

The family of Mr. Phan Sy Ba and Ms. Truong Thi Tuoi (residing in Khu Dong village, Yen Khanh commune, Ninh Binh province) was already in difficulty, now it has become even more difficult when their 7-year-old son suffers from a dangerous disease and has to be hospitalized for treatment.

Phan Sy Thien, Mr. Ba's son, was diagnosed with liver failure, kidney failure, acute respiratory failure and gallbladder inflammation and had to be hospitalized for long-term treatment.

Currently, he is being treated at the National Children's Hospital with treatment costs of up to hundreds of millions of VND. His condition is very critical, in a deep coma due to macrophage activation syndrome" - Mr. Ba shared.

Coming to Khu Dong village, Yen Khanh commune, asking about the family of Mr. Phan Sy Ba and Ms. Truong Thi Tuoi, many people cannot help but feel heartbroken. His wife has had diabetes for many years and cannot work, and his youngest daughter, who is only 2 years old, was also diagnosed with congenital gallbladder atrophy.

His whole family lives with his biological parents in a dilapidated level 4 house, every day he goes to work as a worker at a company (belonging to Khanh Phu Industrial Park, Dong Hoa Lu ward, Ninh Binh province) to have money to take care of his family.

With an income of nearly 7 million VND/month, which was already not enough to provide for the children's education, now his eldest son is suffering from a serious illness, and the treatment cost is up to hundreds of millions of VND, which is something that his family cannot afford.

He has been hospitalized for treatment for more than half a month now, every day he has to have blood transfusions, blood filtration and treatment with other treatment methods with costs up to 45 million VND/day" - Mr. Ba shared.

The dangerous disease of his son Phan Sy Thien has completely changed the life of his and his wife's family. Mr. Ba himself is the main breadwinner in the family, but since his son was hospitalized, he has had to ask for leave to take care of and worry about money for treatment for his son. The daily worry about food and clothing for his and his wife is already hard enough, now adding to the worry about the cost of treatment for his son, causing his and his wife to fall into a deadlock.

Wherever we could borrow money, my husband and I borrowed it all. Although we know that our child needs to be treated in time, with the current treatment costs, my husband and I don't know where to manage. Every day that passes is a day when my husband and I have to strain ourselves in the fear of losing our child" - Mr. Ba said sadly.

Hopefully, with the joint help of the community and philanthropists, Mr. Phan Sy Ba and Ms. Truong Thi Tuoi will overcome difficulties, and Phan Sy Thien will have the opportunity to be saved.
