Tran Bao Ngoc is the first daughter of Mr. Tran Van Duy and Ms. Dang Thi Loan. The family lives in Pom Lot village, Sam Mun commune, Dien Bien province.
From May 2024, she began to show signs of prolonged back pain. Initially, the family thought her child was only tired because she exercised a lot. But after a short time, Ngoc's legs gradually weakened and it was difficult to walk.
Worried, Mr. Duy took his child to Dien Bien Provincial Hospital for examination and discovered that his child had a tumor in the spine. The family immediately took him to Hanoi, to Viet Duc Hospital for a biopsy. The diagnosis result caused the whole family to collapse when Ngoc had a malignant tumor.
After that, she was transferred to K Hospital for chemotherapy. From June 2024 to February 2025, Ngoc had to undergo many chemotherapy sessions. Each time she received medicine, her small body was exhausted, hair gradually fell out, and her health seriously declined.
Even so, the little girl still maintained her optimistic spirit. When the pain subsided, Ngoc chatted happily with her younger sister Tran Yen Nhi (born 2015), who always hoped her sister would recover soon to return home.
Although knowing she had cancer, Ngoc still simply thought that just treatment would cure her, and she would soon return to school like her peers.
After many months of treatment, her health showed signs of improvement. Ngoc was allowed by the doctor to go home for monitoring and scheduled for regular check-ups. The whole family burst into hope. At the beginning of 2025, she eagerly returned to school after a long period of suspending her studies.
However, that joy did not last long. By October 2025, the symptoms of the disease recurred. Test results at Viet Duc Hospital made the family stunned when the cancer had metastasized to the lungs. He continued to be hospitalized and given more chemotherapy to maintain his life.
Meanwhile, the family's circumstances are increasingly depleted. Ms. Loan is a kindergarten teacher in Thanh Yen commune, with a meager income. The treatment cost for Ngoc is nearly 50 million VND per month, far exceeding the family's economic capacity.
To save their child, Mr. Duy and his wife borrowed everywhere, currently the total debt has exceeded 300 million VND. Mr. Duy was forced to quit his job to be on duty to take care of his child, all living expenses were poured into his wife's meager salary.
Choking back tears, Mr. Duy shared: "I know I have cancer but I'm not afraid. I just asked when I could go home, when I could go back to school. I feel sorry for my child but I'm heartbroken and don't know what the future holds.
Regarding the case of Tran Bao Ngoc's family, Mr. Lo Van Hinh, Head of Pom Lot village, confirmed that baby Ngoc's family once had a stable life. However, since she contracted a serious illness, the family's economy has quickly declined and needs the joint support of the community.
Baby Tran Bao Ngoc's journey of fighting illness is not only a life-and-death battle, but also a call for sharing so that she has more opportunities to continue living, studying and nurturing unfinished dreams.
