Baby Bach Quoc Tuan (10 years old, residing in group 5, Huong Thuy ward, Hue City) was originally a healthy, obedient boy. For nearly 3 years, Tuan has been attached to the hospital bed, continuous surgeries and the simmering pain in his small body.
Tuan's father, Mr. Bach Van Thiet (born in 1985), still hasn't forgotten the early days of his child's illness. "At that time, he had a continuous high fever, the medicine didn't lower it, and he was hot-tempered. I took him to hospitals at all levels, and then transferred him to Hue Central Hospital because his condition was too severe," Mr. Thiet said.
In the early days of hospitalization, Tuan fell into a critical condition and had to be treated at the Intensive Care Unit - Pediatric Center. He could not urinate on his own and had to be medically intervened. "The doctor told the family to prepare psychologically, because he might not survive. At that time, I only knew how to cry, every time I answered the phone, I was startled and afraid of bad news," Mr. Thiet choked up.

After nearly 3 months of intensive treatment, Tuan gradually overcame the critical condition, but the treatment journey has only just begun. With gastrointestinal infections, with a history of purulent meningitis, hydronephrosis, blood infection... since then, he has continuously had to be treated in many departments such as: Pediatrics Center, Respiratory Department, Kidney Surgery and recently the Eye Center of Hue Central Hospital.
From September 2023 to now alone, Tuan has undergone 3 kidney-related surgeries and 3 eye surgeries. Most recently, on April 28, 2026, he continued to undergo the 4th eye surgery for both sides, with a cost of nearly 45 million VND for corneal transplantation, nurturing the hope of finding light again. However, according to Mr. Thiet's sharing, this journey has not stopped: "The doctor said that to make his eyes see, he still has to undergo 2-3 more surgeries to have a chance to recover. Currently, his eyes can hardly see anything. Every meal, I have to spend 1-2 hours feeding him, but he is very obedient, hardworking, and does not complain.
Throughout nearly 3 years of treatment, the cost of medicine, surgery and hospital fees of baby Tuan has reached nearly 600 million VND. The high cost is mostly special treatment drugs outside the insurance list, making the financial burden increasingly heavy on Mr. Thiet's family.
Mr. Thiet's family has 4 children, Tuan is the second child. Before getting sick, he was a good student, very fond of going to school. But since the day he fell ill, Tuan almost no longer has the opportunity to go to class. "I just hope my eyes will light up again to go to school and play with friends like before," Mr. Thiet said.
To have money to treat their child's illness, Mr. Thiet and his wife had to borrow money everywhere from relatives and family to banks. Mr. Thiet works as a construction worker, earning about 4 million VND/month. His wife, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhung (born in 1988), works as a garment worker with an income of about 4.5 million VND/month, but often has to quit her job to take care of her child, making life even more precarious.
There were times when my wife had to take a few months off work to be on duty in the hospital. There was almost no income, all expenses fell on my shoulders," Mr. Thiet said.
The remaining three children of the family are still of school age. The older child is in 8th grade, obedient; the third child is in 2nd grade; the youngest child is still young. Life was already difficult, now it is even more difficult when one child has to be treated for a long time...
Even so, amidst the stressful months, Mr. Thiet still tries to spend rare time taking his child for a walk around the park in the evening - as a way for his child to feel life outside the hospital.
I just hope my child will recover, see the light, and go to school like other children. My family doesn't know what to rely on anymore, just hope for help from philanthropists," Mr. Thiet expressed.
Talking to Lao Dong reporters, Mr. Hoan Muoi, Team Leader of Group 5, Huong Thuy Ward, Hue City, said that Mr. Bach Van Thiet's family is in particularly difficult circumstances in the locality.
The family is large, income is precarious, while Tuan is seriously ill and has to be treated for a long time at a very high cost. Over the past time, the locality and people have also provided support within their ability, but it is not enough compared to the treatment cost of the boy... We hope philanthropists will help Tuan and his family overcome this hardship," Mr. Muoi said.
