LD26221: In a two-compartment level 4 house, the whole family is fighting illness

Bac Ninh - After the accident, Ms. Hoang Thi Phuong had to sit in a wheelchair, her husband was ill, her elderly mother was bedridden, and her son was sick. No one in the family is strong enough to work anymore.

In a level 4 house of only two rooms in Tan An village (Tan Yen commune, Bac Ninh province), Ms. Hoang Thi Phuong's family (born in 1971) has struggled with illness and deprivation in life for many years.

In 2025, an accident caused Ms. Phuong to have a broken spine, suffer injuries and have to be in a wheelchair. From a person who could go to work and take care of her own life, she now has to ask relatives and family for support in many daily activities.

After the accident, I can't walk anymore, I have to sit in a wheelchair. My health has also seriously declined, I can't do anything. I am very sad, many times I want to collapse because my family's circumstances are too difficult," Ms. Phuong choked up.

Without a pension, and without a stable source of income, expenses for medicine, food, and living became a burden that the family could hardly manage.

Medication, food and living depend entirely on the help of relatives and local authorities. I myself and my family members no longer have the ability to work and generate income," Ms. Phuong shared.

Her husband, Mr. Do Van Quyet (born in 1970), has also been ill for many years. Currently, he has cirrhosis, weak health and needs regular treatment.

My husband has been sick for about 20 years, now he also has cirrhosis, so his health is weak and he cannot walk or work. Before I had an accident, my husband and I still tried to work, saving up a sum. But after the incident, the accumulated money gradually ran out to take care of life and treatment," Ms. Phuong said.

In that house, worry still weighed heavily on her elderly mother. At the age of 80, she was already weak, thin, bedridden and needed constant care.

Looking at my mother now, I am even more heartbroken because I am a daughter-in-law but cannot take care of my mother. I have 2 children, my daughter has married, and one son is also weak and has no stable job," Ms. Phuong expressed.

Consecutive events have made the already deprived family even more struggling. The sick need treatment, the elderly need care, while the rest have no jobs and stable incomes.

Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan - Head of Tan An Village Women's Union - said that Ms. Hoang Thi Phuong's family is one of the particularly difficult cases in the locality.

We really hope Ms. Phuong's family will receive attention, sharing and support from the community to have more conditions to cover living expenses, buy medicine for treatment and overcome the current difficult period," Ms. Lan shared.
