In the early morning of May 4, Aryna Sabalenka won against Coco Gauff with a score of 6-3, 7-6 (3) to win the Madrid Open 2025 title.
The world's top-ranked player bravely overcame the set point in the second set to end the match after 1 hour and 39 minutes. This is Sabalenka's third championship in Madrid, previously won in 2021 and 2023.
The Belarusian tennis player is currently 4,000 points ahead of Gauff in the world rankings, and this result also ensures that Swiatek is still in second place above Gauff.
Sabalenka is showing stability when reaching the finals in 6 out of 8 tournaments she has participated in so far in 2025. Gauff made a strong impression after beating Swiatek in the semi-finals, but was helpless as Sabalenka scored 17 consecutive points in set 1.
"I was happy to be able to control my emotions at the end of the second set," Sabalenka told Tennis Channel after the match.
"The match was really tense and it was a real war. I am very happy to have been able to close this match in two sets".
Gauff congratulated his opponent: I want to congratulate Aryna on a great tournament. She has always been a tough opponent for me. Congratulations to your team. Congratulations on all the success you have achieved."
