The 2025 season is going quite smoothly for Aryna Sabalenka. She continues to lead the world rankings with her third consecutive Madrid Open final.
Since last summer, Sabalenka has gradually dominated tournaments, notably winning the 2024 US Open. This season, she has participated in 6 finals in just 4 months.
On the other side, 21-year-old Coco Gauff is on the rise after a slow start in the opening round. She impressed with a 6-1 victory, 6-1 against champion Iga Swiatek.
Gauff shared about her opponent in the final: "Aryna is definitely the number 1 player in the world, so it was great to play against her in the final and challenge herself."
Sabalenka has performed well in recent weeks at Madrid, defeating both Marta Kostyuk and Elina Svitolina in the last two rounds. The final against Gauff is likely to be in a balanced manner, but Sabalenka's experience and powerful playing style could give her an advantage.
This was only the first time Gauff reached the Madrid Open final, but before that she had an almost absolute win- loss ratio of 9-1 in the finals.
