At the 2024 US Open, Jannik Sinner confirmed his status as a championship candidate by advancing straight to the final while Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz were eliminated early. He is still one match away from his first US Open title, also the second Grand Slam of his career, against Taylor Fritz.
It will be a lot of pressure for the Italian player, but Sinner also has his own motivation from the stands. In addition to the coaches and family members, cheering Sinner from the stands is also his girlfriend Anna Kalinskaya.
At this year's French Open, Sinner confirmed his relationship with a Russian female tennis player who is two years older than him and cheered her on from the stands.
“Yes, Anna and I are dating, but we keep things private. I won't say anything more,” Sinner shared in May.
“I think it’s great when you find true love,” the 23-year-old said in an interview some time later. “Like everyone does. And if you think about it, the best players in the world have wives and kids.”
At this year's US Open, Kalinskaya also competed and reached the third round of the women's singles and the second round of the women's doubles. She was always present when Sinner played, most recently in the semi-final against Jack Draper .
Kalinskaya was born on December 2, 1998, in Moscow. Her father and mother, Nikolay and Elena Kalinskaya, are both professional badminton players. Her older brother Nikolay Kalinsky plays professional football for FC Pari Nizhny Novgorod.
Anna moved to the US at the age of 14 and pursued tennis, turning professional four years later (in 2016). She is currently ranked at her career-high WTA (15).
To date, Anna has won three WTA Tour doubles titles and one Challenger Tour singles title. She also has nine doubles titles and seven singles titles on the ITF Circuit.
Anna's best result at a Grand Slam tournament is the quarter-finals of this year's Australian Open. She won the junior Grand Slam doubles title in Melbourne at the age of 17, with Tereza Mihalikova.
This year, Anna was the runner-up at the Dubai Open after losing to Jasmine Paolini in the final.
In 2020, Anna dated Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios, but broke up after a short time.
