After the matches on the morning of March 14 (Vietnam time), the BNPbas Pari Open 2024 tennis tournament in Indian Wells determined 8 players to enter the quarter-finals in 2 men's and women's singles.
In the men's singles event, apart from Novak Djokovic's early defeat in round 3, there were not many surprises when entering the quarter-finals with 8 players in the seed group.
Accordingly, the most notable match is the clash between Carlos Alcaraz - the second seed, and Alexander Zverev (6). This is the reunion of the two players who faced each other in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Australian Open.
In Melbourne, Zverev won, also the second consecutive win against the Spaniard after meeting at the 2023 Nitto ATP Finals.
Zverev also increased his head-to-head record against Alcaraz to 5-3 in eight meetings since 2021. They have met in the quarterfinals twice, at Roland Garros 2022 (Wed Zverev) and the 2023 US Open (Wed Alcaraz).
When both of them did not have a really successful start to 2024, their determination to win would be multiplied to win tickets to the semi-finals.
In the semi-finals, they are likely to meet Jannik Sinner, the new Australian Open champion who extended his winning streak to 15 consecutive matches.
In the quarter-finals, Sinner met Jiri Lehecka - the 32nd seed of the Czech Republic, who impressed when they eliminated Andy Murray, Andrey Rublev (5) and Stefanos Tsitsipas (11). This is the first time Lehecka and Sinner have met.
Another notable quarterfinal pair between the two Top 10 seed players is Holger Rune (7) and Daniil Medvedev4. The comeback run beat Taylor Fritz (6) in round 4, while Medvedev beat Grigor Dimitrov (13).
Currently, the two players are tied 1-1 after the confrontations.
The remaining quarter-final pair is between Tommy Paul (17) and Casper Ruud (9), with the Norwegian holding the lead in the head-to-head ratio (4-1).
Meanwhile, in the women's singles event, 6/8 players in the quarter-finals are seeds, 1 player participating in the tournament with a special place (Carloline Wozniacki) and 1 player not rated as Chinese seed, Yuan Yue.
Former world No. 1, Wozniacki will face a big challenge when competing with the No. 1 seed Iga Swiatek, Yuan Yue will face the No. 3 seed Coco Gauff.
Maria Sakkari 9.09) vs Emma Navarro 23.0 and Anastasia Potapova 28.0 vs Mart Kostyuk (31) are the remaining two quarterfinal pairs.
