The latest storm and low pressure information at 11:00 a.m. on December 22 from the Philippine weather agency PAGASA said that tropical depression Romina is continuing to move northeast over the East Sea.
PAGASA said that the Romina depression is moving at 30 km/h with maximum sustained winds near the center of 55 km/h and gusts up to 70 km/h.
Philippine weather forecasters noted that although the Romina depression is currently moving north-northeast, it is forecast to turn north-northwest later on December 22 and west-northwest for the remainder of the forecast period.
PAGASA does not rule out the possibility that low pressure system Romina will reenter the Philippine PAR forecast area.
Notably, PAGASA storm forecasters said that Romina could reach tropical storm strength within the next 12 hours before weakening into a tropical depression during the remainder of the forecast period.
Westernpacificweather.com said this is the first time since 1963 that the Philippine weather agency PAGASA has given a local name to a tropical depression outside the Philippine PAR forecast area.
