The largest vaccination campaign in history is underway with more than 1.38 billion doses in 176 countries and territories, according to data collected by Bloomberg updated on May 14. The latest vaccination rate is about 22.5 million doses per day.
In the US, 267 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been vaccinated to date. Last week, an average of 2.09 million doses of vaccine were injected per day in the country.
Currently, manufacturers provide enough doses of COVID-19 vaccine to fully vaccinate 9.1% of the global population, but the distribution is not uniform. Highest-income countries and regions are vaccinating about 25 times faster than low-income countries.
At the current rate of 22.5 million doses per day, it will take years to achieve a significant level of global community immunity.
However, this rate is increasing steadily and new vaccines of manufacturers are also about to be launched on the market.
