Fox News' latest storm news said that Hurricane Francine made landfall on the coast of Louisiana, USA on September 11, local time, with winds of up to 160 km/h, causing hundreds of thousands of families to lose power and heavy rain in many places.
Hurricane Francine made landfall at 5 p.m. on September 11 in Terrebonne Parish, bringing strong winds to the southern part of Louisiana, near Baton Rouge.
New Orleans recorded wind gusts of up to 130 km/h when the eye of Hurricane No. 6 Francine passed through the city on the evening of September 11, while Dulac recorded wind gusts of up to 150 km/h.
Hours after making landfall, the Category 2 Atlantic hurricane weakened to a tropical storm, but the effects of Hurricane Francine are forecast to be far inland.
Power outages continued across Louisiana, with 400,000 households without power on the evening of September 11 and the morning of September 12. In Mississippi, about 17,000 households were without power, according to PowerOutage.us.
Power outages are expected to continue to increase as Francine moves further north, affecting southeastern Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.
The latest hurricane forecast from the US National Hurricane Center says Hurricane Francine is expected to gradually turn north, bringing its eye across southeastern Louisiana, southwestern and central Mississippi on September 12. The eye is expected to continue moving inland, but the effects of the latest storm in the Atlantic could extend hundreds of miles.
Weather warnings, such as wind advisories, flood warnings and other hazardous weather developments, extend as far north as southern Missouri and as far east as Tennessee as the storm system moves across the southern United States.
Along with Hurricane Francine, eight hurricanes have made landfall in Louisiana since 2000, according to Fox Weather's hurricane experts.
Francine strengthened into a hurricane on September 10, the peak day of the 2024 hurricane season. As Storm 6 Francine moves north and eventually dissipates, forecasters are also monitoring at least two other Atlantic depressions that could potentially become hurricanes.
Hurricane Francine is the third hurricane to hit the continental United States during the 2024 hurricane season. Hurricane Beryl made landfall in Matagorda, Texas on July 8 as a Category 1 hurricane. About a month later, Hurricane Debby strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane before making landfall near Steinhatchee, Florida on August 5.
