On September 17 (US time), a serious shooting incident occurred in York County, Pennsylvania (USA) when police officers returned to the scene to continue an investigation related to family matters.
Colonel Christopher Paris - a member of the Pennsylvania State Police - said that the police team was on duty when they were suddenly fatally shot by a gunman.
Three officers were killed at the scene, while two others were hit by bullets and were rushed to the hospital in critical condition but stable. The perpetrator was also shot and killed by the authorities. The authorities have not yet announced the identities of the suspect, as well as the specific agency under which the officers died.
Some local sources said the shooting occurred while police were coming to execute a search warrant. However, Mr. Paris refused to disclose details, only confirming that this is an investigation related to a family conflict.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has visited the hospital to express condolences to the victims' families. He called this a tragic day for the York County community and the entire state, and affirmed that the sacrifice of these officers was a testament to their bravery in wearing uniforms to protect the safety of the people.
Shapiro also said he had received a call from US Attorney General Pam Bondi, pledging to provide federal assistance to the state of Pennsylvania after the tragic incident.
