Surprised by the EU's assessment of the situation in Ukraine

The Cezch Republic - a member of the EU - believes that Ukraine will be unlikely to succeed in counterattacking Russia in 2023.

RT reported that on March 22, President of the Czech Republic Petr Pavel said that the Ukrainian army has not had a chance to succeed since launching a major counter-offensive against Russia in 2023.

In an interview with European Pravda, Mr. Pavel warned that Ukraine will not be able to reclaim the territory without suffering great losses as foreign aid is declining and there is a serious shortage of human resources.

President Pavel stressed that the conflict could end with a commitment if the current conditions in Ukraine remain unchanged. And now we are getting closer to that commitment, he said.

According to the military theory cited by Mr. Pavel, the army needs to have a force ratio of at least 2/1, or ideally 5/1 to be able to successfully fight. The president said that since before the conflict, Ukraine's defense capabilities were not fully equipped to truly win.

Mr. Pavel also called on Western allies to accept the reality of Russia continuing to take control of part of Ukraine's territory, but noted that the EU should not recognize Crimea or the Donbass regions as Russian territory.

However, the President of the Czech Republic still emphasized that the EU must continue to provide Ukraine with full support so that the country does not lose more territory and facilitate a ceasefire, towards peace.

According to RT, in early June 2023, Ukraine launched a counterattack with forces consisting of newly established brigades and Western-trained crews using Challenger 2 and Leopard 2 tanks.

The Ukrainian army attacked Russian troops on many fronts but could not penetrate the solid defense system and dense mines, leading to heavy losses in both manpower and equipment provided by the West. The offensive only helped Ukraine capture a few small villages, but all were later captured by Russia.
