On August 25, the Civil Defense Agency in Gaza said Israel had carried out two consecutive airstrikes targeting Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis city, southern Gaza Strip. The first attack hit the fourth floor of the medical facility, while the second occurred when rescue workers, journalists and civilians gathered at the scene after the initial blast.
According to Mahmud Bassal, a spokesman for the Gaza Civil Defense Agency, 15 people were killed in the incident, including four journalists and a rescue worker. Witnessnesses confirmed that the attack caused chaos at the hospital grounds, which was receiving many victims of the conflict.
The Israeli military and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office have not yet responded to allegations related to the incident.
The Palestinian Journalists Association reported that more than 240 Palestinian journalists have been killed by Israeli fire in Gaza since the conflict broke out on October 7, 2023. The situation is considered particularly dangerous for the media team working on the ground.
The incident at Nasser Hospital continues to raise concerns about the severity of the humanitarian crisis in the area, as already overloaded medical facilities have now become targets of attack.
