Shoyna village (located on the Kanin peninsula, northern Russia) is a village that never closes at night.
The reason is because this village is located at the edge of the Arctic Ring and is covered in sand. These sand dunes are always moving due to the influence of the West wind. If people close at night, they may not be able to go out the next morning.
At night, when they go to bed, they will open all the doors and windows, and the next morning, they will go out with the top of the window or roof.
Shoyna village also has a sauna used to help people dig sand out of their homes after strong windy nights.
Since the 1930s, many people have come to Shoyna to settle. They make a living by fishing. However, up to now, when resources have been exhausted, only about 300 people remain dependent on subsidies and pensions.
Shoyna village is also famous in the world for being almost completely isolated from the outside. The only way to Shoyna is by water or plane.
