At the regular press conference of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the afternoon of December 19, Ms. Pham Thu Hang said that according to information from the Vietnamese Embassy in Singapore, Singaporean authorities announced that a Vietnamese citizen was attacked and died after being taken to the emergency room on December 10.
"Singaporean authorities have arrested the attacker and are conducting a trial in accordance with Singaporean law," said a spokesperson for the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to the Spokesperson, immediately after receiving the information, the Vietnamese Embassy in Singapore proactively contacted Singaporean authorities to verify the information, requested an investigation, and clarified the incident. The Embassy contacted and supported the victim's family to go to Singapore to complete funeral procedures and bring the victim's body back to Vietnam.
Previously, on December 10, Singaporean and Vietnamese media reported that the victim of the knife attack in Hougang, Singapore was Ms. Dao Thi Hong (Vietnamese nationality, 34 years old, mother of 3 young children).
Ms. Hong came to Singapore to work about 5 years ago. At the time of her death, she worked at the Quan Long Nippon Paint tool store on Hougang Road.
At around 11am on December 10, a 42-year-old man, who was said to be working with Ms. Hong, suddenly stabbed her multiple times in front of many witnesses. Ms. Hong was still conscious when she was taken to the hospital for emergency treatment. However, her injuries were so severe that she later died.
