On June 2, two presidential candidates, Mr. Lee Jae-myung of the Democratic Party (DP) and Mr. Kim Moon-soo of the People's Power Party (PPP), entered the final withdrawal campaign in Seoul to collect votes from the reserved voters.
Mr. Lee - who is leading the polls - started the final day of mobilization in the Gangbuk district of northern Seoul, before moving to neighboring cities of Hanam, Seongnam and Gwangmyeong.
Speaking at a press conference in Seongnam, Mr. Lee affirmed that each voter's vote for him will contribute to protecting democracy and bringing a turning point to the history of Korea.
Seongnam is considered Lee's "political hometown" and is where the 62-year-old presidential candidate of South Korea held the position of acting Mayor for 2 years. I am committed to working with the people to create the future of Korea, Lee added.
After that, Mr. Lee will return to the capital, continue to campaign in Gangseo district and organize the final rally at Yeouido Park, before ending the campaign day with a live broadcast on YouTube.
Meanwhile, Kim Moon-soo started the campaign day by going to Jeju Island Peace Park to commemorate the victims of the January 3 uprising in Jeju. He then continued to campaign in the cities of Busan, Daegu and Daejeon to increase support at the last minute.
In the evening, Mr. Kim will also hold a final rally in front of the Seoul Urban Center. After that, Mr. Kim will continue to meet voters in densely populated areas such as Hongdae and Gangnam until midnight, in a last- least effort to attract votes from young people.
The latest survey shows that TT Lee is leading with 49.2%, followed by Mr. Kim of PPP with 36.8%. Mr. Lee Jun-seok came in third with 10.3%.
The 21st South Korean presidential election will take place on June 3, after President Yoon Suk Yeol was ousted for his brief decision to declare martial law.
