South Korean prosecutors announced on May 1 the prosecution of former President Yoon Suk Yeol for abusing power in an attempt to declare martial law.
This is the latest indictment against the former South Korean president who is on trial for rebellion, according to Yonhap.
The special prosecutor's team investigating the case said that former President Yoon Suk Yeol was being prosecuted without detention for being accused of abusing power and obstructing the exercise of rights when ordering soldiers and police to blockade the National Assembly on December 3 last year at the time of declaring martial law.
The new indictment was issued about three months after former President Yoon Suk Yeol was first prosecuted on January 26 for allegedly leading a rebellion.
A prosecutor's office official said prosecutors had gathered enough evidence to accuse Yoon Suk Yeol of abusing his power.
Prosecutors have suggested that the court being tried for the former president's rebellion allegations add a case of abuse of power to a joint trial.
