On February 5, the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC) officially protested against the Thai armed forces deploying 3 containers on February 3 in An Seh village, Choam Ksan commune, Choam Ksan district, Preah Vihear province, obstructing access to An Seh International Border Gate.
In a press release, MFAIC stated: "This action constitutes a violation of Cambodia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and may alter the security environment in and around residential areas, strengthen military control, weaken de-escalation efforts and continue to hinder people's return to their homes and safe recovery of their property.
According to MFAIC, Cambodia resolutely opposes this illegal and unofficial act, considering it a step to strengthen Thailand's control over Cambodian territory.
The above action goes against the de-escalation measures mentioned in Section I of the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Conference of the Joint Border Committee (GBC), held on December 27, 2025, and violates the United Nations Charter and the ASEAN Charter.
The Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed its consistent and unwavering commitment to seeking a reconciliation solution to all border disputes with Thailand as well as with other neighboring countries, through peaceful measures in accordance with international law, and emphasized the principle stance that borders cannot be changed by force.
The Thai side has not commented on this accusation. However, according to local media, from February 3, Border Guard Region 12 (BPP 12) has deployed patrol teams in many areas, especially at night, to monitor key roads and trails within its scope of responsibility, including border checkpoints in Ta Phraya district, Sa Kaeo province of Thailand.
The main task of this force is to prevent and suppress acts of infringing on national security, including illegal entry, smuggling of military weapons and ammunition, smuggling of counterfeit goods and copyright infringement goods, illegal transportation of livestock and illegal meat, drug-related crimes, and many other illegal activities in the border area.
As of February 5, multi-sectoral functional agencies have increased the deployment of 24/7 forces along the Thai - Cambodian border to monitor the situation, after many pieces of information collected by Thai media suggested that Cambodia had deployed military equipment and a large number of soldiers to many points along the border.
