A Delta Air Lines flight was forced to emergency evacuate at Orlando International Airport (Florida, USA) on the morning of April 21 local time after one of the plane's two engines caught fire right on the runway.
According to Delta's confirmation to Fox News, flight number 1213, departing from Orlando to Atlanta, was preparing to take off when it suddenly discovered fire coming out of the engine's exhaust pipe. The Airbus A330 was carrying 200 passengers, 10 flight attendants and 2 pilots at the time.
A video shows passengers on the flight using an emergency overpass to leave the plane while the fire broke out at the rear of the engine.
Immediately after discovering the incident, the flight crew immediately activated the emergency evacuation process in accordance with safety standards. Firefighters at the airport quickly arrived and controlled the fire.
Delta said it was fortunate that there were no initial reports of injuries. All passengers were then taken back to the station, receiving snacks and drinks while waiting for a replacement flight to continue their journey.
"We would like to thank customers for their cooperation and sincerely apologize for this unwanted experience. For Delta, nothing is more important than safety," said the company representative.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Delta's technical team is thoroughly checking the crashed plane, while the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has also begun investigating the incident.
