Large fire and explosion at US chemical plant

    An agricultural chemical plant near the town of Reedley, California, exploded and caused a major fire on August 6.

    According to Sputnik, the large fire made the smoke column easily visible from afar. The fire caused more than $2 million in damage.

    According to Fresno Bee, the fire broke out at noon and more than 100 firefighters participated in extinguishing the fire.

    Jeremiah Wittwer, head of the fire department, said the fire burned down about 25% of the 1,485m2 complex. Initial reports estimated the burned factory area to be about 1,858 square meters.

    According to Jeremiah Wittwer, some workers were in the factory when the fire broke out but no one was injured.

    The cause of the fire at this chemical plant is being investigated.

    The factory area is mostly rural and there are a number of farms and agricultural chemical trading units near this area.
