Visitors to France's famous Versailles Palace can now chat with the statues instead of just listen to the usual explanation.
This initiative is the result of a partnership between Versailles, OpenAI Company (USA) and start-up Ask Mona (France), bringing a new experience of applying artificial intelligence in the 17th century heritage space.
According to the announcement from the management board, about 20 statues in the palace's garden have been equipped with QR codes. When scanning the code, visitors can start an interactive conversation with the statue in French, English or Spanish to learn more about the rich history of Versailles Palace.
Mr. Christophe Leribault - President of the Versailles Museum - said: "The Versailles Palace is testing artificial intelligence, with outstanding capabilities that promise to enrich the experience of visitors significantly".
Versailles welcomes about 8 million visitors a year. With a large number of visitors and global reputation, this has become an ideal place for the two technology partners to introduce their AI applications in the cultural field - a field that is often less associated with technology.
Ms. July Lavet - OpenAI's Director of European Partnership - commented: "Whether you are a heritage expert, museum manager or a first-time visitor to the Versailles garden, this experience brings something attractive to everyone."
As for Ask Mona, Chairman of Marion Carre shared that this initiative is an opportunity to introduce another aspect of artificial intelligence - not only a productivity tool but also a means to arouse curiosity and discovery.
With the combination of ancient history and modern technology, Versailles continues to affirm its position as a destination constantly innovating, where the past and future blend to bring a unique experience to visitors.
