On July 2 (Moscow time), in an interview with TASS news agency, former US House Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (Republican Party, Georgia) said that more and more Americans do not want this country to continue to engage in conflicts abroad, because it does not help strengthen national security but causes people to bear additional economic costs.
Commenting on the US and Israeli military campaign against Iran, Ms. Greene said that US President Donald Trump has not properly implemented his campaign promise in 2024 to limit military intervention abroad.
He once promised that there would be no more conflicts abroad, and that is one of the important reasons why many people voted in favor. Americans are too tired of paying for conflicts that are not directly related to protecting the country," Ms. Greene said.
According to the former senator, the conflict with Iran has created more pressure on the US economy as fuel prices and inflation have risen. She said that even if peace talks between Washington and Tehran are successful and the ceasefire continues to be maintained, it will take months for gasoline prices to cool down, while inflation is also unlikely to fall quickly.
We have seen gasoline prices and inflation increase together. Even if peace is maintained, it will take months for fuel prices to fall back. Inflation will not easily fall. That is the price that Americans have to pay," she said.
In addition to foreign policy, Ms. Greene also believes that Mr. Trump's administration has not fulfilled its commitment to reform the federal apparatus and handle "deep state" - a term used to refer to the network of officials and interest groups believed to have a significant influence on the policy-making process of the US government.
In his first term, Mr. Trump repeatedly declared that he would reform the federal administrative apparatus because he believed that the bureaucratic system had hindered his agenda. However, according to Ms. Greene, these goals have not yet been achieved as expected.
Marjorie Taylor Greene was once considered one of Mr. Trump's closest allies and a prominent face of the MAGA movement (Make America Great Again). However, the relationship between the two has cracked in recent months after she publicly opposed US military operations abroad and criticized Israel's military campaign in the Gaza Strip.
