Accordingly, on July 13, a South Korean court sentenced former President Yoon Suk Yeol to 2 years in prison after declaring him guilty of receiving a free public opinion poll service worth 270 million won (179,800 USD) from a political broker.
In the ruling, the Seoul Central District Court found that Mr. Yoon Suk Yeol violated the law on political sponsorship when receiving 14 rounds of public opinion polls from a political broker without paying a fee and then affecting the nomination of a former MP in repayment.
Mr. Yoon Suk Yeol denied the allegations, emphasizing that he did not request polls or promise to return anything.
Former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, 65, is involved in 8 lawsuits. He is appealing a life sentence imposed in February after the court concluded that he masterminded the uprising related to the declaration of martial law at the end of 2024. Other lawsuits include a Supreme Court ruling last week, which imposed a 7-year prison sentence for obstructing the authorities' efforts to arrest him.
