The nuclear talks between the US and Iran, scheduled to be held in the capital Muscat of Oman on June 15, have been canceled. Notify Oman Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi posted on the X platform, in the context that the country is playing the role of mediator between the two sides.
The cancellation of negotiations came after Israel launched a large-scale airstrike campaign against Iran, with the stated goal of preventing the country from developing nuclear weapons. The strikes killed many commanders and scientists and caused damage to Iran's nuclear facilities.
A senior official in the Trump administration, who remained anonymous, also confirmed the talks had been canceled. However, the official insists Washington remains committed to the negotiations and Hopefully Iran will soon return to the negotiation table.
The suspension of negotiations comes amid rapidly rising tensions in the Middle East. Israel has now been conducting a multi-day military operation.
Meanwhile, relevant parties are concerned that the continued conflict could disrupt diplomatic efforts and negatively affect regional stability. It is still unclear when the negotiations will be resumed, as well as specific conditions for the two sides to continue the dialogue.
