President Luong Cuong asked Peru to create favorable conditions in the process of completing procedures for transferring projects in the oil and gas sector of Vietnam.

At noon on November 14 local time, in the capital Lima, within the framework of his official visit to Peru and participation in the APEC 2024 Summit Week, President Luong Cuong had a meeting with leaders of several typical Peruvian businesses.

These are all large Peruvian enterprises in fields such as mining, energy, port investment, financial services, mutual fund management, electricity and insurance...

Peruvian businesses expressed their desire to learn more about the Vietnamese market and seek cooperation partners in each other's strengths, thereby further promoting economic, trade and investment relations between the two countries.

According to VNA, speaking at the meeting, President Luong Cuong expressed his pleasure at attending the meeting with Peru’s top business leaders; he said that this event will contribute positively to the development of economic and investment relations between the two countries to a new and better stage.

The President said that over the past 30 years since establishing diplomatic relations, Vietnam and Peru have always maintained good relations through many bilateral dialogue mechanisms, from politics, diplomacy to economics and trade.

Reviewing the important progress in bilateral cooperation in many fields in recent times, the President said that the potential for cooperation between the two countries still has much room for development, especially when the two countries officially become full members of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

The President stressed that Peru's being granted the status of "Development Partner" by ASEAN will strengthen Peru's presence in Southeast Asia as well as open up opportunities to increase trade between Peru and ASEAN member countries; at the same time, he expressed his hope that Vietnam will be the gateway to connect Peruvian businesses with the ASEAN market of nearly 700 million people.

Based on the comments of representatives of leading Peruvian enterprises, the President shared some suggestions for cooperation between enterprises of both sides, including asking Peru to support and facilitate Vietnamese projects, especially digital transformation projects, providing digital infrastructure, smart cities, cyber security, digital healthcare, digital education; at the same time, creating favorable conditions in the process of completing procedures for transferring Vietnam's oil and gas projects in Peru.

Along with that, the President said that Peruvian enterprises need to research and consider the possibility of cooperation in developing mineral exploitation, organic agricultural products, food processing, tourism, etc. - areas in which Peru has particular strengths and Vietnam has great potential and is in need of attracting investment to match the potential of the two countries.

The President also suggested that the two sides continue to coordinate in exploiting free trade agreements (FTAs) and bilateral and multilateral cooperation mechanisms of which both sides are members, such as APEC, the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), and the Forum for Latin American and Caribbean Cooperation (FEALAC).
