At least four people were killed and 16 injured in a shooting incident in the early morning of October 12 (local time) at a bar on St. Helena Island, South Carolina, according to information from the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
The incident occurred at around 1 a.m. at Willie's Bar and Grill, No. 7 Dr. Martin Martin Luther Drive Street on St. Helena Island, about 1 hour a drive from Savannah City (georgia).
When the deputy police arrived at the scene, they saw a large crowd at the bar, many of whom were injured by bullets. 4 people were confirmed dead on the spot.
"Hundreds of people were present at the scene of the shooting. Many victims and witnesses ran to nearby stores and houses to seek shelter, said a statement from the Chief Police Office.
No one has been arrested yet, but police said they are investigating a notable person. The names of the deceased victims have not been announced, waiting to be notified to relatives.
This is a tragic and difficult case for everyone, the authorities said in a statement, urging the community to be patient as the investigation continues.
Mr. Willie Turral - owner of Delta's Bar and Grill - said that "the chaos" broke out when gunshots rang out outside the restaurant.
I wasnt sure what had happened, I only knew the shooting took place outside, while I was in the shop. But I can confirm that the gunshot sounded like a machine gun, Turral said.
He said that he saw a group of people panicking and running in, many of whom collapsed on the floor, trying to find a place to hide. When he stepped outside, he saw medical staff providing emergency care to the victim right at the parking lot. Its unbelievable, the bar owner added.
