Young Indonesian businessman produces shoes from chicken feet

Nurman Farieka Ramdhany - a 25-year-old businessman in Bandung city, Indonesia has researched and tested the production of shoes from chicken feet.

Up to now, chicken feet have been used for some dishes, including dim sum. However, in reality, chicken feet are covered with a layer of skin with a texture and pattern similar to snake or crocodile skin.

Ramdhany's father has studied these strange skin types and advised his son to try making shoes from chicken feet. The Indonesian young man started working in this job in 2017.

Currently, Ramdhany and a group of five people, including his father, make shoes made entirely or partly from chicken feet.

This production process takes about 10 days. They have to take the skin from the chicken feet by hand, dye the skin and suture it into pieces that fit the shoes.

According to Reuters, to make a pair of shoes, it takes about 45 chicken feet. The price of each pair of shoes ranges from 35-140 USD.

According to Ramdhany, one of the main motivations for him to make chicken feet shoes is the opportunity to use waste products from fast food restaurants and markets - his main sources of chicken feet.

Ramdhany said that customers like chicken feet shoes made by him. "They say shoes are very comfortable to wear. So far, the market feedback is positive" - he said.
