According to the latest hurricane report from Yahoo News, the No. 1 storm of the 2025 hurricane season is likely to appear in the Atlantic basin before the start of the season.
AccuWeather's forecast bulletin said that the season's first typhoon is likely to appear from May 15 to May 22.
"Up to now, this is the best chance for the first named tropical storm of 2025 to form in both the Caribbean and the eastern Pacific, although AccuWeather meteorologists say the likelihood of a storm forming is low," the bulletin said.
AccuWeather hurricane forecaster Alex DaSilva said: "We are entering the season that needs attention in the Caribbean." He warned that storms are likely to appear in this basin from mid to late May.
If a tropical depression or storm appears soon in the Caribbean, the system is likely to move northeast, according to AccuWeather. Based on this model, I think the best chance is that the storm will sweep across Jamaica, Cuba and then out to sea, he said.
The forecaster noted that the possibility of the No. 1 storm forming in the second half of May in the Atlantic cannot be ruled out at this time, but the possibility of this system affecting the United States is not high.
AccuWeather's forecast bulletin said that due to the impact of the storm, some heavy rains may also affect South Florida. Tropical rains could also cause localized flooding across Central America, Jamaica, Cuba and other islands across the Western Caribbean.
According to the latest hurricane bulletin from Yahoo News, the possibility of Palm Beach or Florida, USA, recording a tropical depression or storm in May 2025 is low but still possible.
As for the May storm, forecasters in the US have pointed out that Tropical Storm Bertha was the last storm to hit the US in May; it hit South Carolina in May 2020.
Since 2003, 15 tropical storms have formed before June 1. Eleven of those storms formed in May. There are even early storms forming in January. For example, from January 16-17, 2023, an unnamed subtropical storm has appeared.
The Atlantic hurricane season typically runs from June 1 to November 30. Meanwhile, the typhoon season in the eastern Pacific will start earlier, from May 15 and end on November 30. Storms in the northwest Pacific appear all year round, but are most common from July to November.
With the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season, the first storm to appear will be named Andrea, followed by Barry, Chantal, Dexter, Erin...
