EU bears serious consequences for extending its reach with Ukraine

On June 28, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban issued a number of warnings about the unpredictable consequences of Ukraine's admission to NATO and the EU.

In an article on social network X, Mr. Orban affirmed that immediately after admitting Kiev to the US-led military bloc, "a full-scale war with Russia and World War III" will break out immediately.

The Hungarian Prime Minister continued to express his dissatisfaction with the European Union's (EU) support for Ukraine.

Mr. Orban also reiterated his tough stance on giving Ukraine EU membership, saying that this could "pull the front lines into central Europe".

Notably, Hungary has long opposed the approaches of Western allies or the entire EU to the conflict in Ukraine, including the provision of weapons and sanctions against Russia.

On June 27, the Hungarian leader warned that once Kiev joins the EU, the economy of the entire bloc, including Hungary, will plummet.

According to Mr. Orban, Ukraine will remain immersed in a series of uncertainties as long as the conflict with Russia continues, so EU membership will not be granted to this Eastern European country.

On June 26, Hungary also rejected an EU joint statement on Ukraine at the Foreign Council in Brussels ( Belgian), aimed at blocking Kiev's EU entry talks.

Commenting on Hungary's stance, Mr. Orban cited the results of a consultation vote in this country that took place from mid-April to June 20, with the question: "Do you support Ukraine's membership in the European Union?" According to the Prime Minister, 95% of the more than 2 million participants have rejected Ukraine's aspiration to join the EU.
