According to Reuters, the US delegation was led by Ms. Usha Vance, wife of Vice President of JD Vance. The delegation also included National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and Energy Minister Chris Wright.
The trip comes as President Donald Trump continues to promote the strategic territoriallegage idea.
According to the plan, Mr. Waltz and Mr. Wright will visit the Pituffik space base, where the US military base is located in Greenland. After that, they will join Ms. Vance to visit historical sites and participate in the national dog and trailer race.
The White House affirmed that this is an opportunity to build a partnership that respects Greenland's right to self-determination and promotes economic cooperation.
However, the visit of the US delegation faced backlash from Greenland and Denmark. Greenland leader mute Egede called Mr. Waltz's trip a "provocation", saying it was a move to show off power. He stressed that Mr. Waltz's presence would increase pressure from the US after the visit.
The Greenland government is in an interim period after the March 11 election. The party won a vote in favor of a slow-moving approach to gaining independence from Denmark. Greenland has not yet responded officially to the US delegation's visit.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen also expressed concern, affirming that Denmark wants to cooperate with the US but on the basis of respect for sovereignty. She emphasized that all dialogues related to Greenland will be conducted in close coordination between the Danish government and the future Greenland government.
Since taking office for a second term, President Donald Trump has made the issue of merging Greenland a policy focus. He said Greenlands strategic location and rich mineral resources could bring great benefits to the United States.
Greenland is located on the shortest route from Europe to North America, playing an important role in the US ballistic missile warning system.
However, both Greenland and Denmark have opposed the merger plan. There is currently no information on the start date of the trip, but the US delegation is expected to return on March 29.
