Speaking to reporters in Washington, D.C., President Donald Trump said the Israeli and Arab leaders had supported the plan, and that we are just waiting for Hamas to make a decision. He gave the group 3 or 4 days to respond.
Hamas will either do it or not, and if not, it will have a very sad ending, Trump said when leaving the White House. When asked if there was a possibility of further negotiations, he replied: Not much.
The plan proposes an immediate ceasefire, exchanging all the hostages Hamas is holding for taking Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisoners, withdrawing Israeli troops from Gaza in stages, breaking off Hamas's borders and forming a transitional government led by an international agency.
However, a source close to Hamas said the plan was completely aimed at Israel and set un acceptable conditions to eliminate Hamas.
Many points in this 20-step plan have appeared in ceasefire agreements over the past two years, including agreements that have been accepted by both Israel and Hamas and then withdrawn.
One of the main conditions that Hamas raised at the outset of the war was for Israel to completely withdraw its troops from Gaza in exchange for the release of the remaining hostages. And despite expressing its willingness to give up control, Hamas remains determined not to take away its weapons.
What Mr Trump is proposing is to accept all the conditions of Israel, which does not give Palestinians or Gaza residents any legal rights, an unnamed Palestinian official said.
