Hezbollah has launched more than 50 rockets into northern Israel. The two areas directly affected are the Galilee Panhandle and Kiryat Shmona.
Many streets and buildings in these two areas were destroyed, but there were no casualties according to information from the Israeli military.
The Israel Defense Forces said the attack was carried out in two waves by Hezbollah. The first wave took place between 1 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. local time and involved about 20 rockets.
In the second attack, about 30 missiles were launched consecutively at 5:30 a.m. (local time).
Israel said its defenses intercepted several Hezbollah rockets and carried out a missile strike in response later that day.
Hezbollah later claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was in retaliation for Israel's killing of three emergency responders in Lebanon on September 7.
