At the regular press conference of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the afternoon of July 17, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang responded to the information about hundreds of Vietnamese people being arrested in the campaign to crack down on online fraud activities in Cambodia.
Ms. Pham Thu Hang said: According to information from the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia, on July 14, more than 140 Vietnamese citizens were detained by Cambodian authorities in Phnom Penh for online criminal and fraud activities.
"After receiving the information, the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia immediately proactively worked with the competent authorities of Cambodia to find out information and request the Cambodian side to ensure living conditions for Vietnamese citizens and coordinate in completing initial identity verification procedures" - Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said.
According to Ms. Hang, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has directed the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia and related units to immediately coordinate with domestic and local authorities to implement necessary consular procedures and support the return of citizens to the country as soon as possible.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs once again recommends that Vietnamese citizens should be alert to invitations to go abroad for "easy work, high salary", not requiring degrees, qualifications, no signed contracts, not through businesses, not through labor dispatching organizations.
Citizens need to carefully research the content of work, the unit, the expected work location and the relatives of the introducer, the insurance regime, and the benefits to make the right decision before working abroad.
Citizens as well as relatives of citizens who want to learn about information and regulations can continue to contact the citizen protection hotline of the Consulate or the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia.
