Cambodia will ban fruit imports from Thailand if the country does not reopen the border

Thanh Hà |

Cambodia will ban imports of fruits and vegetables from Thailand if the country does not unilaterally reopen the border on June 17.

On June 16, President of the Cambodian Senate Hun Sen announced that Thailand must completely reopen all border checkpoints with Cambodia within 24 hours or Cambodia will ban Thai fruits and vegetables from entering the kingdom.

Mr. Hun Sen revealed the letter when he gave a special message before the meeting of the Cambodian Senate on the morning of June 16.

If Thailand does not completely reopen all border control stations with Cambodia from tomorrow onwards, we will apply a ban on Thai fruits and vegetables entering all of our border control stations, he said.

Senate President Hun Sen added that Cambodia will lift the border entry ban against Thailand if the Thai government opens Thailand's border from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily as before.

However, Hun Sen also made it clear that the Cambodian government will never sit down again to negotiate with the Thai government on the border reduction because Thailand was the initiator of this move.
